Geography

At its simplest, geography is the study of places around the world. We define geography as including the following components:

  • World Political Geography: countries, sub-regions, capitals, cities
  • World Physical Geography: regions, landforms (peninsulas, islands, etc.), water bodies (oceans, seas, lakes, rivers, currents, etc.), physical features (mountains, volcanoes, etc)
  • Our Universe: galaxies, constellations, stars and planets, and other heavenly bodies

History

History is the systematic study and documentation of the human past. At IAC competitions, history would include the following components:

  • Ancient World History: cultures and civilizations including Sumerian, Greek, Roman, Indian, Egyptian, Chinese, etc
  • Medieval World History: post Roman Empire Europe till the Industrial Revolution, colonisation and imperialism
  • Modern World History: Industrial Revolution onwards, World War I and II, Post-World War events to the present date

Science

Science is a study of knowledge about the universe. For IAC events, science includes the following:

  • Natural sciences: Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics
  • Environment: Flora and Fauna, Climate Change, Sustainability
  • Inventions and Discoveries

Academic

As the name suggests, it includes, but is not limited to:

  • History, geography and science
